Batteries inevitably wear over time, lasting anywhere from two to five years. Wear is caused by a variety of factors, including weather conditions, frequency of use and how many abnormal and continuous discharges of power or components that constantly use power, it supports.

Batteries inevitably wear over time, lasting anywhere from two to five years. Wear is caused by a variety of factors, including weather conditions, frequency of use and how many abnormal and continuous discharges of power or components that constantly use power, it supports.

While not every factor can be controlled, there are several habits drivers can adopt to help their batteries last as long as possible, including:

  • Unplugging power adapters, phone chargers and other accessories when not in use
  • Avoiding using battery-powered accessories like the radio or cabin lights when the engine is off
  • Allowing the battery to fully recharge after start-up by taking longer drives
  • Keeping the vehicle cool during the summer by parking in covered areas
  • Never allowing the vehicle to sit for weeks without being driven

Should you only use your vehicle occasionally or only drive your vehicle seasonally it is recommended that you connect your battery to a genuine Mercedes-Benz trickle charger that is tailored to your vehicle's complex electronic systems. During the duration of your Premium Drive maintenance contract you may only fit genuine Mercedes-Benz parts, accessories and equipment to your car.

If your Mercedes-Benz is covered under the Premium Drive maintenance contract one of the conditions of the contract is that only genuine Mercedes-Benz approved parts.


SERVICE TIP OF THE MONTH - AUGUST 2020

During the duration of your Premium Drive maintenance contract you may only fit genuine Mercedes-Benz parts, accessories and equipment to your car.

If your Mercedes-Benz is covered under the Premium Drive maintenance contract one of the conditions of the contract is that only genuine Mercedes-Benz approved parts, accessories and equipment are allowed to be fitted to the vehicle. This also applies to service and repair work. While your vehicle is under contract only approved Mercedes-Benz dealerships are allowed to perform work on your vehicle.

Please find below a few examples of regular non-compliant items found:

  • Windscreens are sometimes damaged and then replaced by non-approved windscreens. Sometimes insurance companies or fitment centres are unaware of the condition of the maintenance contract. Your vehicle will be inspected when it comes in for its next service and if found that a non-approved windscreen was fitted it will mean that your maintenance contract will no longer be valid.
  • Please only fit genuine Mercedes-Benz batteries as these batteries were specifically designed to support the electrical and electronic system of your Mercedes-Benz.
  • Please make sure that OEM tyres are fitted to your vehicle. Incorrect tyres and non-genuine rims can influence your maintenance contract.
  • Should your vehicle be in an accident please insist that an approved Mercedes-Benz auto body repairer repair your vehicle and that they use genuine Mercedes-Benz parts. The closest auto body repair shop to Rola Mercedes-Benz is De Jongh’s Panelbeating Centre in Strand.
  • Please make sure that no non-approved workmanship gets done to your vehicle during the duration of your warranty/maintenance period. This includes servicing and maintenance work, non-approved accessory and equipment fitments and vehicle tampering and modification.

As a Mercedes-Benz owner please make sure that only Mercedes-Benz approved parts, accessories and equipment are fitted to your vehicle and that the work is performed by an approved Mercedes-Benz dealership like Rola Mercedes-Benz. This way the vehicle’s maintenance contract will stay active for the full duration of the contract.
